We are convinced Jon is showing signs that he is starting to wake up. He responded to the nurse with some very slow eye interactions; close your eyes for yes open them wide for no. While being talked to by Megan’s dad, his blood pressure shot from 60 to 80.
Jon’s lungs look a little worse today only because they were not as aggressive with pulling fluids yesterday. So today they amped up the fluid pull along with performing a bronchoscopy; where an instrument is inserted into Jon’s airways ( usually through the nose or mouth) that allows Jon’s doctors to examine his airways for inflammation. From there they took chest cultures to verify if there is a secondary infection. Jon’s doctors suspect there is another infection in his gallbladder as well. His team is hoping to drain it which will hopefully eliminate the need to remove it but look, I bet multiple people reading this update right now are doing so without a gallbladder so...ehh, you win some you lose some right? ♀️
With the help of a childhood friend in the industry, I spoke to a prosthetic specialist today who (bonus!) is also a UCLA alumni AND has worked with Jon’s doctors in the past. To be clear, Jon is still not out of the woods, not by a long shot, but the more information we can acquire in this camp the better. This prosthetic specialist provided invaluable information about Jon’s prosthetic options as well as his future quality of life. He summed up our conversation (based off the information we currently have) by saying “I wouldn’t doubt it if Jon does another Tough Mudder again in the future.” And you better bet your sweet ass that Jon will have a whole team along side him.
Tonight, Megan plans to spend the first night home overnight with her boys. You would not believe the strength and courage these three young men have shown. Per Megan’s request a picture of each boy with Jon has been hung above their pillows where they can kiss and talk to daddy each night before they fall asleep (pictures linked in this update). I know this has been a comfort for all three, specifically Wyatt (3 years) who told us the other night:
“I cried a little bit last night, I miss mommy and daddy. But I kissed my picture of daddy over my bed, and then I went to sleep"
