Some how, some way...
Although nothing is normal for this family right now, some how, some way a sense of normalcy will, at some point, have to start to creep in. The passage of time and continuance of life without the presence of such a beautiful human like Jon is beyond hard to accept. Regardless, the microscopic grains of sand are starting to combine, forming one tiny stepping stone in that monstrous stairwell towards their new family life, and that began to take shape today.
This evening, some of our Watson Nation gathered to attend Landon’s last flag football game of the season and the first since Jon’s passing. The gloomy and rainy weather mirroring each of our own sentiments. Each of the three boys have been dealing with the grief in their own ways but Landon, whose sweet soul naturally gravitates towards pleasing people, has been the least vocal in his grieving process so far. As a result, and understandably so, Landon struggled to get his head in the game. Sitting on the sideline in Megan’s lap he seemed content to watch the game in the comfort and warmth of his momma’s arms. After allowing Landon time to acclimate, Megan pulled him aside to have a heart-to-heart talk. Admitting that he was cold, Landon also conceded that his hesitation might also be due to the fact that he is sad (yes Landon, yes). After offering the supportive pep talk and love only a mom can provide, Megan had Landon glance over to observe the village that has gathered around their family in show of support. “I know none of this will replace your Dad, but look at all of the people who have come out to support you.” With newly found “momma love” confidence, Landon took to the field once more and fully embraced his quarterback flag football role. His Dolphin team taking a knee prior to their game in honor of Jon. Kris, Jon’s brother, running up and down the field offering supporting words to Landon as he played.
While nothing will ever again be “normal” for Megan or her boys, you bet your ass that our village will commit to surrounding this family in the support and love that Jon would have wanted for them. Each of us promised him before his passing that we would be there, and each of us intend on keeping that promise just as we know Jon would have for us.
